A person’s root of existence, tells us who he or she is and as such very important especially to Africans
living all around the world. Ask the African about the diaspora and you will leave marveling if such an era
ever existed. It is fair to say, that African Diaspora is just a far less agonizing way to call what went on,
and below are more appropriate themes to describe it so.
Colonialism first off is one of the themes one can use in place of the African diaspora. It can be explained
as when a native loses control of what is theirs to foreigners and in this case not by choice. Citizens were
deprived of what was duly theirs. The foreign countries that colonized Africa, in their quest for gold and
glory reduced a whole continent to nothingness, leaving netizens with virtually nothing to pick up as
broken pieces. Countries like present-day Ghana, South Africa, Nigeria, and others are one of the victims
of the pandemic " African Diaspora".
Slavery
This is perhaps one of the downgrading happenings in the African Diaspora dispensation. This period
saw a migration of trading from commodities like gold to humans. Human beings are used and discarded
cruelly with no one to be held accountable. Individuals are born and shipped off, never to return home
again to work in plantations as well as serve as handmaids under deplorable conditions. This journey is
considered a journey of no return as some fell ill, and others also died and were discarded as
commodities they are regarded with no sympathy for the human.
Segregation
Another word that can be used to describe this social vice is the term segregation. Segregation is a term
used to explain the act of setting someone and something aside. A major scenario is the apartheid
system in South Africa. Where blacks are separated from White. Social amenities and quality living were
a prerogative of the white alone and this cause an uprising that lasted for years so much so that, the
effect is still felt.
Globalization
Last but not least is the theme of globalization. The African diaspora saw a lot of people been migrated
from their countries to foreign ones. Because the diaspora was widespread, an uncountable number of
people were taken out of Africa to countries like Portugal, and Britain. Presently, we can attest to a large
number of people although directly not there during the era, living abroad as descendants of individuals
who were uprooted from their country of birth to develop these foreign countries at their expense of
theirs.
To conclude, true, countless people left the continent to explore, study and improve but the forced ones
and the experiences talk less of the nightmares they endured, is a dent that leaves hollowness in the
heart of every African who tries to know more of their ancestry. Evidence is still there, to show us the
ashes the African diaspora left a continent to.
